Tidying up the house is one of the physical activities that is sometimes quite tiring. Just like exercise, tidying up the house also sometimes makes the body sweat. Then, does it mean that tidying up the house can also be regarded as exercising?
To answer this, experts have several opinions. Many people think that doing household chores means that they do not need to do additional sports. They will think that they are already actively moving so there is no need to exercise anymore.
"But most likely, it's not enough," explains Melina Jampolis, M.D., a Los Angeles-based diet and nutrition physician and author of The Calendar Diet.
Another thing that may not be realized when doing house cleaning activities is food. Kara Melina, when you do housework, usually people often end up snacking more, because you are at home and very easy to access food.
"So, even though doing household chores does burn calories, often it doesn't replace the extra calories, which you actually consume doing the habit of snacking when doing housekeeping," melina said.
Melina advises that when you are at home, don't fill the kitchen or refrigerator with various unhealthy foods. The temptation to snack when you're tidying up the house can be very diverse.
"And when you don't have a lot of options, you won't be tempted to snack especially snacking on unhealthy foods," she said.
And the most important thing is to always make a target of exercising for 30 minutes 3-5 times per week. This is because even if you have cleaned almost all parts of the house, the amount will still not be the same compared to if you worked out at the gym.
